Glenbard Wastewater Authority Background

Industrial Pretreatment

Industrial Pretreatment

Glenbard Wastewater Authority (GWA) is required by an EPA mandated program, The Clean Water Act (40 CFR 403) to regulate industrial and other non-domestic wastewater sources that discharge to GWA’s wastewater treatment system.

Industrial Pretreatment

The purpose of the program is to:

  • Protect the collection system and treatment plant infrastructure from physical damage from non-domestic pollutants.
  • Protect treatment plant processes from harmful pollutants that could interfere with those processes.
  • Protect the DuPage River from non-domestic pollutants that could pass through the plant untreated.
  • Ensure that the GWA’s biosolids comply with land application requirements.
  • Protect GWA employees from potentially harmful chemicals.

A permit to discharge may be required for industries in GWA’s service area discharging non-domestic wastes. New industrial and commercial facilities must submit an Industrial Wastewater Discharge Survey. For more information on discharge permits, local limits,  and pretreatment forms, click a link below.
