About Us

The Glenbard Wastewater Authority located in Glen Ellyn, Illinois is an agency formed in 1977 between the Villages of Lombard and Glen Ellyn via an intergovernmental agreement. Its mission is to operate and maintain municipal wastewater treatment facilities, protect public health, and protect the environment, for approximately 109,000 residents and businesses in the Lombard, Glen Ellyn, Valley View/Butterfield and Glen Ellyn Heights service areas.

The Authority operates and maintains:

  • The Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility located in Glen Ellyn, treats an average of 12 million gallons of wastewater per day (peak flows up to 47 million gallons per day)
  • The Combined Sewerage Overflow Facility located in Lombard, an excess flow treatment facility, treats up to 58 million gallons per day only during times of significant rainfall
  • Five lift stations throughout our service area
  • Gravity interceptor conveyance system known as the North Regional Interceptor and the South Regional Interceptor
