Facilities

Glenbard Wastewater operates and maintains the following facilities and infrastructure to carry out its intended mission of wastewater treatment, protecting public health, and protecting the environment.

Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility

GWA-Plant-AerialThe Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility, located at 21W551 Bemis Road, Glen Ellyn, IL has a normal daily design flow of 16.02 million gallons per day with a peak design flow of 47.0 million gallons per day. Advanced treatment consists of Primary Screenings, Grit Separation and Removal, Primary Clarification, Two-Stage High Purity Oxygen Activated Sludge, Intermediate and Final Clarification, Tertiary Treatment, and Ultraviolet Disinfection.

Solids processing at this facility includes Anaerobic Digestion and Dewatering. Dewatered solids are land applied.

This facility utilizes a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) to control and monitor the treatment processes enabling the unmanned operation of the plant during off hours, and is also equipped with a 2.4MW natural gas backup electrical generation system in the event of power loss from the utility.

Combined Sewerage Overflow Facility

Overflow-ArielThe Combined Overflow Facility located at 21W151 Hill Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL has a peak design flow of 58.0 million gallons per day, and operates only during times of significant rainfall. Treatment consists of Primary Screenings, Grit Separation and Removal, Primary clarification, Sodium Hypochlorite disinfection, and Sodium Thiosulfate de-chlorination

No solids processing takes place at this facility.

This facility utilizes a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) to control and monitor the treatment processes enabling the unmanned operation of the plant during off hours, and is also equipped with dual feed electrical sources from the utility.

Saint Charles Road Lift Station

Saint Charles Road Lift StationThe Saint Charles Road Lift Station located at 21W744 Saint Charles Road, in Glen Ellyn, IL has a peak design flow of 10.6 million gallons per day. Discharge flow from this station is pumped via an 18″ force main to the North Regional Interceptor, which then flows by gravity to the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility.

No solids processing takes place at this facility.

This facility utilizes a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) to control and monitor the treatment processes enabling the unmanned operation of the plant during off hours, and is also equipped with 600 kW diesel backup electrical generation in the event of power loss from the utility.

Valley View Lift Station

The Valley View Lift Station located at 22W661 Arbor Lane, Glen Ellyn, IL has a peak design flow of 2.2 million gallons per day. Discharge flow from this station is pumped via an 10″ force main to the South Regional Interceptor, which then flows by gravity to the South Regional Interceptor Lift Station, which is subsequently pumped to the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility.

No solids processing takes place at this facility.

This facility utilizes a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) to control and monitor the treatment processes enabling the unmanned operation of the plant during off hours, and is also equipped with 150 kW diesel backup electrical generation in the event of power loss from the utility.

Hill Avenue Lift Station

The Hill Avenue Lift Station located at 21W151 Hill Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL has a peak design flow of 5.6 million gallons per day, and operates only during times of significant rainfall. Discharge flow from this station is pumped via a 16″ force main to the Combined Overflow Facility.

No solids processing takes place at this facility.

This facility utilizes a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) to control and monitor the treatment processes enabling the unmanned operation of the plant during off hours, and is also equipped with dual feed electrical sources from the utility.

South Regional Interceptor Lift Station

The South Regional Interceptor Lift Station located at 21W551 Bemis Road, Glen Ellyn, IL has a peak design flow of 4.1 million gallons per day. Discharge flow from this station is pumped to the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility.

No solids processing takes place at this facility.

This facility utilizes a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) to control and monitor the treatment processes enabling the unmanned operation of the plant during off hours, and piggy backs on the 2.4MW natural gas backup electrical generation system from the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility in the event of power loss from the utility.

Sunnyside Lift Station

The Sunnyside Lift Station located at 21W551 Bemis Road, Glen Ellyn, IL has a peak design flow of .432 million gallons per day. Discharge flow from this station is pumped via 4″ force main to the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility.

No solids processing takes place at this facility.

This facility utilizes a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) to control and monitor the treatment processes enabling the unmanned operation of the plant during off hours, and piggy backs on the 2.4MW natural gas backup electrical generation system from the in the event of power loss from the utility.Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility.

The South Regional Interceptor

The South Regional Interceptor transports flow from the Valley View and Butterfield subdivisions to the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility. The interceptor consists of approximately 1.1 miles of 10″ force main, 1.5 miles of gravity sewers ranging in size from 18-inch to 30-inch, the Valley View Lift Station, and flow measuring stations.

The North Regional Interceptor

The North Regional Interceptor transports flow from Glen Ellyn Heights (an unincorporated area of DuPage County) and the northern portions of Glen Ellyn and Lombard to the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility. The interceptor consists of approximately 4.6 miles of gravity sewers ranging in size from 18″ to 66″, the Saint Charles Lift Station, automatic sewage regulators (which limit the flows into the interceptor & divert excess flows to the Combined Sewerage Overflow Facility), and flow measuring stations.
